- The Context:
- Because of excessive use of inorganic fertilizers, pesticides we are losing our quality soil at a alarming rate. So as to restore the richness & fertility of the soil vermicompost is the only total eco-friendly Solution.
- The Practice:
- We have started Certificate course in Vermicomposting Technology for our college students from the session 2022-23. A vermicomposting unit was installed & inaugurated by the hands of our Principal Prof. Ishwar Mohurley sir.
- Two composting tanks of (12 Ft. x 4 Ft) size were constructed to process the organic biodegradable waste.
- Organic waste material (dry leaves, flowers & paper) was collected by the course students from the college campus & filled the composting tank.
- After that by taking all the precautions earthworms were released in to the same tank.
- First batch of 17 students were admitted for the course (15th December 2022 to 15th March 2023).
- Students were trained through theory as well as practically.
- After completion of the vermicomposting process the resultant product i.e. vermicompost is applied to the garden plants in the campus.
- Resources Required:-
- Composting tanks, food Scraps, dry leaves, flowers, partly decomposed cow dung, earthworms.
