Event objectives

  • Every year in the month of September Big Butterfly Month is celebrated.
  • It is a citizen science initiative dedicated to celebrating and conserving butterflies.
  • Our mission is to unite butterfly enthusiasts, students, families, kids, and nature lovers in contributing valuable data that enhances our understanding of these delicate wonders of nature.
  • Keeping in mind the role of Butterflies in nature & also for mankind, particularly as potential pollinators. These creatures should be protected & conserved.

Event briefs

On 28th September 2023, we organized a butterfly walk (Survey) at Nawegaon bandh. The survey was conducted from the Sankul area to MTDC guest house. We started the survey at 7.00 am. Ms Geeta Tidke, the Butterfly expert, was the resource person. This activity was graced by the presence of the respected principal of our college Prof. Ishwar Mohurley, Shri Sachin Dongarwar, R.F.O. Nawegaon bandh wildlife, Shri Rupesh Nimbarte, President of Hirwal Bahuuddheshiya Sanstha, Gondia, Shri. Bhimrao Lade Sir,  Shri Chhatrapal Chaudhary & Dr. Sharad Meshram. Dr. Gopal Paliwal, Dr. Manoj Bangadkar, Ms. Mansee Khare, Mr. Nikhil Nandagawali, Mr. Lalit Urkude, Ph.D. student and wildlife biologist from Bramhapuri & about 50 students of S.S.J. College were participated in the survey. Ms. Geeta Tidke madam guided in detail about the Identification, behavior, plant & butterfly relationship & various other interesting facts about butterflies. During the survey, 35 different butterfly species were recorded.

Event outcomes

  • During the Survey  Ms. Geeta Tidke, Butterfly Expert guided the students about the Identification of Butterflies, behavior, sexual dimorphism, aberrations, polymorphism, and plant & butterfly relationships.
  • Students understand in detail the lifecycle of a butterfly.
  • Students observed about 35 different colorful species of butterflies.
  • overall the activity was knowledgeable & applied.
