Event objectives

  • Hands on training of Microtechnique to participants
  • To prepare a permanent stained slides of the given material
  • To carry out a histological and histopathological studies of the tissues
  • Make students aware about the microtechniques used in the laboratory

Event briefs

Microtechnique is a technique which provide a disciplined channelized laboratory process for the preparation of the material (Slide) from the tissue, for study under microscope. Microtechnique involved three major steps like premicrotechnique, microtechnique and post microtechnique.

A 05 days workshop on the Microtechnique was organized by the department of Zoology, Shivprasad Sadanand Jaiswal College Arjuni morgaon, Dist. Gondia on dated 05th to 09th March 2024. The target group of the workshop was the UG and PG students of different colleges of Nagpur University and faculty members, technicians and laboratory attendants working in the field of life sciences. The workshop was organsied in the able guidance of the respected Principal Prof. Ishwar S. Mohurley sir. The co-ordinator of the workshop was Dr. Gopal Paliwal, Organizing secretary Ms. Mansee Khare and resource persons were Dr. Virendra K. Sangode and Dr. Manoj K. Bangadkar. Total 30 students of the different colleges and 02 faculty members were actively participated in the workshop.

The schedule of the 05 days workshop is as follow:

Day 01: Inauguration of the workshop in the presence of Ishwar S. Mohurley sir, Principal and Chairman of the programme, Dr. K. J. Sibi sir, IQAC Coordinator, Dr. Gopal T. Paliwal, Coordinator, Dr. Virendra K. Sangode, Resource person and chief guest, Dr. Manoj K. Bangadkar, Resource person and chief guest and Ms. Mansee Khare as a Organizing Secretory.

Inauguration is followed by the guest lecture by Virendra K. Sangode on topic Introduction to Microtechnique. The second session of the day 1 was on the lecture by the resource person Dr. Manoj K. Bangadkar on topic Basics of Microtechnique.

Day 02: Demonstration and Hands on training of the fixation of the tissues in different fixatives by resource person Dr. Manoj K. Bangadkar

Day 03: Demonstration and Hands on training of the block making including dehydration, clearing, infiltration and embedding in paraffin wax by resource person Dr. Manoj K. Bangadkar.

Day 04: Demonstration and Hands on training of the trimming of the block, sectioning on microtome and spreading of ribbon on slides by resource person Dr. Manoj K. Bangadkar.

Day 05: Demonstration and Hands on training of the Histological staining of the spreaded slides including deparaffinization, double staining, clearing and mounting in DPX. After mounting of sections the results observed by students under microscope and photographs were taken under the guidance of Resource person Dr. Manoj K. Bangadkar.

Workshop was ended with the Valedictory programme organized in Zoology laboratory. The chairperson of the valedictory programme was Prof. Ishwar S. Mohurley sir, Principal and Chief Guest Prof. Padurand S. Dange sir, Head department of Commerce and Member of Management council, RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur. Programme was conducted in the presence of Dr. Gopal T. Paliwal, Dr. Manoj K. Bangadkar and Ms. Mansee Khare. Students shares their feedback and experiences about the workshop. Certificates were presented to all the participants after getting feedback responses.

Event outcomes

  • Students get practical knowledge about the each and every step of the microtechnique for the preparation of stained permanent slides.
  • Students of the different colleges interacted with each other and gained some extra knowledge about the different microtechniques used in the laboratory.
  • Permanent stained histological slides of the given tissue material was prepared by the students.
  • Prepared paraffin blocks, spreaded slides and stained permanent slides were provided to the students.
  • Students can easily identified and use the different tools used in microtechniques.
  • Total 30 UG and PG students and 02 faculty members of different colleges working in life sciences discipline were trained and they can perform microtechnique.
