Event briefs

The conference entitled “BIODIVERSITY AND WETLAND CONSERVATION” was inaugurated by Prof. (Mrs.) Vidya V. Baile, Ex.-Professor and Head, PGTD Zoology, RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur, in the presence of Professor Varsha Dhurve, Head, PGTD Zoology, RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur was the chief guest. Shri. Mukesh Jaiswal, Secretary, Shri Durga Shikshan Sanstha Arjuni Morgaon, Shri Dada Raut, Lodging officer Navegaon Bandh, Shri Sachin Dongarwar RFO (Wildlife ), NNTR, Shri Rupesh Nimbarte, President Hirwad NGO Gondia, Dr. K. J. Sibi, IQAC Coordinator, Dr. Gopal T. Paliwal, Organizing secretary, and Prof. Ishwar S. Mohurley, President and Convener of the conference.
About 250 participants among the Academicians, Researchers, Environmentalists, Scientists and Students across the country participated at the conference.
A photo exhibition was organize in the event depicting photographs of migratory water birds in Gondia district.
Gondia and Bhandara districts are known as the lake districts in eastern region of maharashtra. Small lakes and ponds exist in every villages of
these two districts. These ponds are mainly used for agriculture and fish farming in traditional way. Currently, these wetland habitats are in danger due to increasing pollution, expansion of agriculture in wetland areas, excessive use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers in agriculture
and irresponsible use of lakes and areas. The biodiversity dependent on these wetlands is also in danger. So protecting and enriching them is the need of the hour. Therefore, the conference has been organized to reflect on these issues briefed by Dr. G. T. Paliwal, organizing seceretary of the conference.
Keynote address delivered by Dr. Rajkumar Khapekar, Head, Department of Botany, DRB Sindhu Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur on “Biodiversity and ways of lake Eco restoration”.
Three technical session were conducted during the national conference:
Technical session 1: A talk on “Eco-Rejuvination of Fly Ash Degraded/Contaminated Land for Socioeconomic development in rural areas” delivered by Dr. Lal Singh, Sr. Scientist, CSIR, NEERI, Nagpur. The session was chaired by Dr. M. F. Jadhav, Head Department of Zoology, S. N. Mor College, Tumsar
Technical session 2: A talk on “Wetland Avifauna and Biodiversity Conservation” delivered by Dr. L. P. Nagpurkar, Head, Department of Chemistry, M. B. Patel College Sakoli. The session chaired by Dr. Sudhir Bhandarkar, Head Department of Zoology, M. B. Patel College Deori.
Technical Session 3: A talk on “Role of dependent communities in the wetland and biodiversity conservation” delivered by Shri. Manish
Rajankar, Director FEED. The session was chaired by Dr. Nitin Meshram, Head Department of Zoology, S. K. Porwal College, Kamptee.
During conference, about 40 participants were presented their research posters on the different themes of the conference.
In the valedictory function the chief guest was Dr. Suresh Masram, Associate Professor, PGTD Zoology, RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur., Prof. Ishwar Mohurley, Convener & chairman of valedictory function, Dr. M. F. Jadhav, Dr. Nitin Meshram, Dr. Sudhir Bhandarkar, Dr. B. S. Rahile, Shri Rupesh Nimbarte, Dr. K. J. Sibi, Dr. Gopal paliwal were also present.
The program was coordinated by Dr. Ashish Kavale & Mr. M. D. Dhuratkar. Vote of thanks was proposed by Organizing secretary Dr. Gopal Paliwal.

Event outcomes

On the eve of the conference, students were enriched with the knowledge of biodiversity and wetland conservation.
In this conference poster presentation were held and best poster presentation awards were achieved by Ms. Ankita Sharma, Dr. D. L. Chaudhary, Dr. Chhanda Samrit and Dr. D. N. Lanjewar.
Awards were given to the eminent Academicians and Environmentalists for their significant contribution in the field of Environmental conservation:
Dr. Sudhir Bhandarkar, HOD Zoology, M. B. Patel College, Deori was awarded the “Biodiversity Researcher Award” for his outstanding contribution in the field of Wetland biodiversity conservation.
Prof. Bhuwanendra S. Rahile, Professor, Science College, Pauni was awarded the “Krushi Gaurav Award” for his outstanding contribution in the field of Agriculture Entomology for the betterment of farmers life.
Shri Rupesh Nimbarte, President Hirwad bahuuddeshiya Sanstha, Gondia was awarded the “Nature Saviour Award” for his outstanding contribution in the field of Biodiversity conservation.
Shri. Bhimrao Lade, Environmentalist, was awarded the “Nisarg Mitra Award” for his outstanding contribution in the field of Nature conservation.
